Flexible Partials (Thermoplastic)

It was once thought that all removable partial dentures had to be rigid to be effective. This is no longer the case. Today, more dentists are advising flexible partial dentures for comfort as well as strength.

With flexible partial dentures, the denture base is made of either nylon or a vinyl composite material. This type of partial denture is able to adapt to the constant movement and flexibility in the mouth. Partially edentulous patients with challenging conditions such as allergies to lesions, pose great challenges for the fabrication of a successful partial denture. The flexible, yet strong nature of this denture material is perfectly suited to a variety of natural confitions in the mouth, enabling the flexible resin to act as a stress breaker, that provides superior function and stress distribution.

Flexible, yet nearly unbreakable, the flexible resin can be made quite thin, and can form not only the denture base, but also the clasps. Since the clasps are built to curl around the necks of the teeth, they are practically indistinguishable from the gums that normally surround the teeth. Esthetics, comfort, and ease of insertion are important factors to consider in choosing this type of partial denture.
